Since 1995, NOVADI has become become the world’s exclusive variety manager of scab-resistant apple varieties bred by INRAE. 
Besides, for more than 20 years, INRAE and NOVADI have jointly run the varietal creation program, still based on the selection of resistant apple varieties. 
NOVADI is a group of 16 French nurserymen producing fruit trees for professionnal growers and and in particular almost all apple trees certified by the French Ministry of Agriculture.

Most of them are also involved in CEP INNOVATION, another company whose activities are the breeding and management of varieties and rootstock of other fruit species (pear, apricot, peach, cherry, almond, plum, door Pyrus graft, Malus rootstock).

The synergy between INRAE
and NOVADI

The strong partnership between NOVADI and INRAE has many advantages for both organizations as well as for fruit growers. Indeed, the main objective of this partnership between the French public and the private sector is based on the implementation of a sustainable orchards and ensuring quality production for arboriculture professionals. 
The management of the programme is carried out jointly by the INRAE and NOVADI.

INRAE, one of the most advanced public institutes in the world for the improvement of fruit species, provides NOVADI with the latest scientific breakthroughs..

INRAE is in charge of basic research. These include studies on the hereditary characteristics of resistance to parasites and pests, tree architecture, skin colour, organoleptic quality, etc. This work allows to develop molecular markers for the identified genes of interest with the aim of integrating them into our system to further improve the efficiency of selection.

In return, NOVADI is directly involved in the funding of breeding programs and also deals with validation, final selection of plant material and its dissemination throughout the whole arboriculture sector.
